In Their Steps

  • Clarity

Jesus had not previously given them much of a hint regarding the trajectory of his life. Now, though, he was stating the matter plainly to them.

  • Radical Imagery

As if the news couldn’t get any worse, Jesus now indicates that his followers must embrace the idea of traveling the same path as him.

  • On the Mountain

Mountaintops were commonly thought to be places where a person could experience God, and scripture gives ample accounts of such experiences. This excursion would not disappoint.

  • Testy

What we must remember is that there was a testy side to Jesus that surfaced from time to time. We will not truly comprehend the personhood of Jesus until we recognize all of his personality traits…

  • A Better Question

The disciples were asking, “what caused it?” Jesus says the better question is, “what are you going to do about it?”

  • Be Like Skip

All of the normalcy in the world wasn’t worth denying Jesus. Why? Because Jesus is the one man who radically changed his life.

  • Greatness

What do we usually say to an adult when they are caught acting like a child? “Oh, grow up!” Ironically, Jesus says we need to become like a child if we don’t want to miss the Kingdom.

  • Write Offs

When it comes to the matter of forgiveness, we could safely reduce the principle to a simple statement: forgiven people forgive people. No further qualifications are necessary.

  • Room for One

When it comes to the throne of our hearts, there is only room for one. Jesus wants it to be him. We must decide if we will make room.

  • Firecaster

How can the Prince of Peace say he came to bring division? The answer lies in the reality that Jesus’ ministry was meant to have a purifying element to it.

  • A Tale of Two Men

We’ve heard it emphasized enough to know the value of humility in the Kingdom of God. The problem is, we’re still not very good at it.

  • Fairness

We want fairness. We demand fairness. The problem is, we can’t agree on how to measure it.

  • Tree Climbers

Jesus came searching for people who were living lives distanced from God, and to do whatever was necessary to close the gap. Zaccheus was obviously a prime candidate.

  • I Am

But just so the crowd doesn’t miss the point, Jesus goes with them to the tomb, instructs the rock seal to be removed, and says something that surely made the crowd gasp: “Lazarus, come out!”

  • The Bethany Martyr

This time the people came not only to see Jesus, but also to see Lazarus. Why? Because dead people living is a sight to see.
